New speakers for my 1993 Honda Accord
Finished product
Before
Im replaceing these crappy old speakers in a 1993 Honda Accord that I just took in trade, for my 93 nissan pickup. I got the car for $150 bucks, and it needs quite a bit of work. By the time i finish this car is gonna be sweet! (on the inside and underside) the outside is going to stay beat looking to discise it from the fine correctional officers of otsego county that seem bent on takeing away my drivers licence.
Anyway these roadmaster speakers were not quite to my likeing, and they just look like trash. The previous owner cut big holes out of the sheet metal, to fit these bigger 6x9 speakers, and he zip tied the speakers to the metal. They sound horrible, and the rattleing was nauciating.
So I got out the trusty best buy card, and ordered replacements. Two Rockford Fosgate 5x7's were on clearance and you know I cant resist clearance items. They are a bit smaller than the old walmart speakers, but in my experience bigger is not always better.
The trick now is how to put in 5x7's where the huge holes were, and still make them look ok.
I quickly went to work on designing a custom trim kit that would cover the old patch job speaker instalation, and stop the rattleing noise.
1/2" plywood! Not my first choice, but it will work, and definitely stop the rattle
A little black paint. C'mon Im not a complete Redneck!
That's not so bad. The new fosgates fit very snug, and all thoe they didn't come with grilles, they look alot better than the old speakers.
I'll be posting more on the front speakers. They are oem factory speakers, and blown to high heaven, I guess after 238,000 miles they aughta be. Anyway till next time.
